Philippians 2: 5-11

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped.

Amazing. Jesus is all God. YET he didn't think once consider trying to be equal or better than God. What a mind-blowing concept, since Jesus and God are one due to the trinity, yet Jesus didn't attempt to grasp equality with God. I'm not going to try and sound all philosophical because frankly, this blows my mind and I have no idea how it works, all I know is, it does.

But made himself nothing, taking on the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

He is all God. He made himself nothing. He lowered himself and took on the weakness of humanity, yet was a perfect servant. He is all man. He faced temptation and struggles, yet was always humble, a perfect servant, living the life we were meant to live and failed horribly at.

And found in appearance to be a man, he humbled himself to death, even death on a cross!

'He was found in appearance to be a man '-- He looked fully man, and was, yet it doesn't say 'He was found to be a man'. It again shows that there is more than just that, He is more.
He lowered himself to the lowest place, death. The worst kind of death possible. He became the definition of sin, a perfect man became the worst sinner to ever have lived, by his own choice, for us.

Therefore, God exalted him the highest place and gave himself the name that is above every name,

Because of his perfect humility in lowering himself to the lowest place, God not only raised him up pretty darn high, but to the highest place! God is not a guy of middle ground, no siree, He is extreme! He became nothing, and therefore we can have hope everlasting.

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

Bowing of the knee, an act of submission, respect, honor. It makes me think of a marriage proposal, a knee bowed. A question asked with anticipation and longing for a resounding Yes! We bow before Him and ask for acceptance, forgiveness, and desperately need a Yes! our lives depend on it. Every time, He comes through. YES is His constant answer.

and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of the Father.

Not only do our actions need to honor His name, but our words, our tongue. You can't have one without the other. The way we live and the words of our mouth should be in sync, confessing His lordship over all. Every single part of my being should be confessing Jesus Christ as Lord.
every tongue, every knee.
No one is excluded.
Everything was made by Him and for Him. He holds it all together.
You alone deserve all the praise.

  1. Well written (said!) Danae, I finally decided to sign up to follow your blog- rather then just visiting it all the time. You write and think well- both the content and the prose is captivating and true to life/ God. I think He is pleased and quite fond of you.. not because of what you write but because you are.
    peace... Dad
